What your Venus sign means

Venus describes what you find attractive and how you show affection — not who you will end up with, but the way you tend to move in relationships and what you treat as valuable. It is usually a better guide to your romantic style than your Sun sign is.

Venus takes about four weeks to cross a sign, so your birth date is normally enough. It also never strays far from the Sun, which is why your Venus sign is always your Sun sign or one of the two signs either side of it — not a coincidence, just orbital geometry.

Venus through the twelve signs

Each placement below describes what you value and how you show affection — not a fixed outcome, and not the whole chart.

Venus in Aries

Venus in Aries falls fast and says so. You pursue rather than wait, and you want the spark kept alive — a relationship that settles into pure routine will lose you before a difficult one does.

Venus in Taurus

Venus in Taurus loves through steadiness and the senses. Slow to commit, deeply loyal afterwards. You show affection in tangible ways and want touch, consistency and no sudden weather.

Venus in Gemini

Venus in Gemini loves through conversation and play. You need someone genuinely interesting to talk to; boredom does more damage to your relationships than conflict does.

Venus in Cancer

Venus in Cancer loves by looking after people. You want safety and belonging, you remember everything, and you need to know where you stand before you fully arrive.

Venus in Leo

Venus in Leo loves generously and openly. You want affection to be visible and reciprocated with some warmth — being loved quietly can read to you as not being loved.

Venus in Virgo

Venus in Virgo loves through practical care. You show up with the useful thing rather than the grand gesture, and you have to watch the instinct to improve the people you love.

Venus in Libra

Venus in Libra loves partnership itself. You are attentive, fair-minded and good at togetherness — and you may negotiate away your own preference to keep it pleasant.

Venus in Scorpio

Venus in Scorpio loves all in. You want depth, privacy and real trust, and you find surface-level affection close to pointless. Jealousy is the shadow side of that intensity.

Venus in Sagittarius

Venus in Sagittarius loves with the doors open. You need room and honesty, and you bond over shared adventure and belief more than shared routine.

Venus in Capricorn

Venus in Capricorn loves by commitment and follow-through. You are not especially interested in performance; you want someone who is still there, doing what they said, in five years.

Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius loves as friends first. You resist possessiveness and conventional scripts, and you want a relationship that leaves both people recognisably themselves.

Venus in Pisces

Venus in Pisces loves by merging. Romantic, forgiving and easily moved — which is beautiful, and which is exactly why a boundary you actually hold matters here.

One placement is one line of the chart

Your Venus sign sits alongside roughly nine others, and the angles between them are where a chart actually gets specific. Six questions, no card.

Venus sign: FAQ

Do I need a birth time for my Venus sign?

Usually not. Venus spends roughly four weeks in a sign, so unless you were born on a changeover day the date settles it.

Why is my Venus sign always near my Sun sign?

Venus orbits closer to the Sun than Earth does, so from here it never appears more than about two signs away from the Sun. Your Venus is always within that band.

Does my Venus sign say who I am compatible with?

It describes your style, not your match. Compatibility involves both charts and several placements — a single sign pairing is a starting point, not a verdict.

What if Venus was retrograde when I was born?

The sign is the same either way. Retrograde is about apparent direction, not position — though the tradition reads it as a more inward, reconsidered relationship to what Venus governs.
