What your Moon sign means
Your Moon sign describes your emotional rhythm: what you need in order to feel settled, how you react before you have had time to think, and what you reach for when things are hard. People often recognise themselves in their Moon sign more than their Sun sign, because it describes the private version rather than the public one.
The Moon moves roughly half a degree an hour and crosses a whole sign in about two and a half days. That is why a birth time matters here in a way it does not for the Sun — without one, a birth on a changeover day is genuinely ambiguous, and this calculator will say so rather than guess.

Do I need my exact birth time for my Moon sign?
Usually not exact, but you do need roughly the right day. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days or so; if it changed on your birth date, the time decides which side you fall on.
What if I do not know my birth time at all?
Enter the date and place and we will tell you honestly. If the Moon stayed in one sign for the whole of your birth date, your Moon sign is certain without a time. If it changed that day, we withhold it rather than pick one.
Why does my Moon sign feel more like me than my Sun sign?
That is common. The Sun describes what you are growing into; the Moon describes what you already are when nobody is watching.
Is the Moon sign the same as the moon phase I was born under?
No. The sign is where the Moon sat against the zodiac; the phase is how lit it was. Two different things.
