Capricorn Compatibility
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) is an Earth Cardinal sign ruled by Saturn. Here is how Capricorn matches with all 12 signs, ranked best to worst.
Look at Capricorn's grid and the shape is blunt. Everything at the top is earth or water. Everything at the bottom is fire or air. Taurus and Virgo top it out at 10. Another Capricorn takes 9, Scorpio and Pisces 8. Below them the numbers collapse into a row of 4s, a 3, and a 2 at the very bottom. The only water sign not up there is Cancer, its opposite, stranded mid-table on 5.
What sorts them is tempo, and what Capricorn is quietly asking for. Its clock runs in years, and it needs somebody who won't be bored by that and doesn't experience patience as a rejection. It also wants, without ever putting the request into words, to be allowed to set the weight down for an hour in front of one person, and it'll only do that with someone who has proved they can take it.
Capricorn is the sign most likely to marry someone it can build a life with, and least likely to admit it fell in love with them by accident, quite early, and told nobody.

Capricorn's Best Matches
The top of Capricorn's grid is a tie, and a lopsided one. Taurus scores 10 and Virgo scores 10, and neither of them drops below a 10 anywhere on the row. They get there differently.
Taurus is the one that can make Capricorn stop. Taurus's argument with life is that pleasure counts, and it's the only sign that can put that argument to a Capricorn without being waved away, because Taurus is visibly not lazy and Capricorn can see it. Dinner gets cooked. Sunday gets defended. Capricorn will grumble about all of it and then eat.
Virgo is the one it builds with. Capricorn's plans are large and slightly vague at the edges, and edges are Virgo's whole talent. Nothing gets dropped between them, ever.
Two Capricorns together make 9: an outstanding household in which nobody is ever the person who needs something. Then water. Scorpio takes 8. So does Pisces, and both of them hit 10 for friendship. Water is where a Capricorn gets to be a person. Scorpio sees straight through the composure and is neither impressed nor frightened by it. Pisces is the one it's soft with, and the only one allowed to notice it's tired.
Capricorn's Hardest Matches
What sinks these pairings is nearly always the same two columns: trust, and whether the thing lasts. Capricorn can survive being argued with. What it can't survive is finding out the ground it built on was never solid.
Aries is the floor, a 2, with trust and staying power both down at 1, and those aren't figures worth negotiating. Two cardinal signs with no shared sense of time: Aries decides in an afternoon what Capricorn meant to spend a year on, then wants credit for the speed, and Capricorn tends to learn about a large decision made on a feeling only once it's been made. Something closes. Sagittarius and Leo lose the same way at lower volume, both at 4, both hearing Capricorn's caution as a smaller life than the one they came for.
Libra fails on something quieter and lands a 3, trust down at 2. It tells Capricorn the smoothing thing because the room felt tense, Capricorn takes it as load-bearing and builds, and it wasn't true. To Capricorn a comfortable lie is just a lie, and Libra never does work out why that was the unforgivable part.
Gemini and Aquarius, also 4s, don't fail on a fight at all. They're simply somewhere else by the time Capricorn goes looking for them years in, and staying power was always the column that would decide it.
None of these are unlivable. Every one of them costs a little more each year, though, and cost is the one thing a Capricorn never stops counting.
What Capricorn Needs From a Partner
Don't take the first 'fine.' A Capricorn says it on the worst day of its life in exactly the tone it uses on a Tuesday, and a partner who lets that answer stand ends up years deep beside a stranger. The time to come back to it is later, in the car, when it doesn't have to look at you.
Don't fight its work with an ultimatum. It'll choose the work and be sad about that forever. Be the better offer: book the thing, pay for it, make it non-returnable. Capricorn cancels a vague intention and honors a commitment.
Praise it precisely. General admiration slides off, because Capricorn assumed you were just being polite before you'd finished the sentence. Name the exact thing it pulled off, the part that was genuinely hard and that it was sure nobody had clocked, and you'll have reached it. Capricorn won't acknowledge that you did. It will, from then on, quietly count your judgment as worth having.
And start the conversation. Capricorn wants the emotional conversation and will not begin it, and someone has to, and that someone is you, forever. If that sounds like a lot, it is. What you get in return is a person who will not leave.
